"Kathryn Hunter grew up surrounded by good north Alabama storytellers and embellishers. She quickly learned to harness the power of narrative in everything she creates. In this recent work, multiple materials are utilized, each displaying a color, a mark, a texture that explores the subject through symbolism and visual narration. Red wool may touch emotion; a stitch may connect to nostalgia; relief printing may present a pattern. Animals are characters used to reflect on false prophecy, violence and pacification, truth and deception, cultural and wealth idolization, death and life joined together.

Hunter has been an Artist Member of Baton Rouge Gallery since 2007. She earned her Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Montana State University, Bozeman.

This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Dawn Black, Danielle Burns, and Leslie Friedman. All works from these four artists are on view, free of charge during normal gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m., Tue - Sun), through September 27, 2019.
