DAWN BLACK

Dawn Black, born in Louisiana, her work has been included in exhibitions the world over; from Kunstoffice (Berlin, Germany) and the Curator's Office in Washington, D.C. to the University of the Pacific (Stockton, Calif.), the Jonathan Ferrera Gallery (New Orleans, La.) and Gallery 119 (Chicago, Ill.). Her work is also included in various private collections including the Zacharius collection and has been reviewed by Art in America, the Washington Post and Art Papers Magazine.

Black's Conceal Project and Tales of Fancy is composed of two simultaneous presentations of work. The first, Tales of Fancy, explores the artist's own mania regarding authenticity, identity and society at large. The artist's lush presentation of ambiguous relationships, using found images and delicate craft, has become a hallmark of her works on paper. The second component of Black's current work is the Conceal Project, which is an array of painted persons on paper whom are presented in a vast range of concealments from masquerade to disfigurement. Conceived as a cataloging of universal characters or archetypes, the project currently includes 160 such figures.
