paul dean : I Am Not From This Planet

'FIRST WEDNESDAY' OPENING: 2/7, 7 - 11 P.M.
ARTICULATE ARTIST TALK: SUNDAY, 2/11 AT 4 P.M.

With I Am Not From This Planet, Paul Dean draws inspiration for his latest collage work from a shape that is also a symbol: the square. In Ancient China it signified the Earth itself and elsewhere it might suggest the larger universe or even infinity. Dean asserts that within these geometric icons "you will see a scientific and entirely objective view of the Earth and the Universe through all of time" that is "pristine and yet chaotic, still but still alive, as if caught in flickering crystalline amber."

A BRG artist member since 1993, Paul Dean currently serves as a professor of color theory, typography and graphic design history at Louisiana State University. Dean also serves as a freelance graphic designer and performs as a DJ.

His work has been exhibited at the Slidell Cultural Center, the LSU Union Art Gallery, The Southwest Missouri State University Student Exhibition Center, the University of Florida and the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff Missouri.

This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Charles Barbier, Clark Derbes, and Tom Richard. It will be open to the public, free of charge, during normal gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m.) February 4 - March 1, 2018.
