”Threshold” depicts a powerful Minotaur-like figure, blending a muscular human body with the vulnerability of a downcast bull’s head. To me, this figure represents an internal struggle between strength and defeat. Behind him, a pale, ghost-like female figure in a surrendering pose embodies submission, mystery, and emotional weight. The obscured face of the female figure hints at repressed emotions or past trauma, and the tension between the two figures reflects a dynamic of power, vulnerability, and the complexity of inner conflict. Through this painting, I explore themes of psychological struggle, the duality of strength and weakness, and the emotional costs of surrender and sacrifice. Ultimately, it speaks to isolation, alienation, and the hidden battles we face within ourselves and in our relationships.” - Kelley
